Which Thai fruits are safe for dogs? Mine begs for mango
Every time I eat fruit on the balcony my dog sits and stares. Mango, watermelon, pineapple, durian, rambutan, longan... which are safe as treats? I don't want to poison her by accident and I know grapes are dangerous. We have a balcony with a view of a small market, and she sits there patiently every time anyone peels a fruit.

Seedless watermelon and a little mango flesh are usually fine, in small pieces, no skin and no stone. Frozen watermelon cubes in the hot season are a hit. Never grapes or raisins. And keep fruit to a few bites. Cut the fruit into small cubes and count it as part of the daily treats, not extra, otherwise the dog may start to gain weight quickly.

Fruit has sugar, treat it as a snack and not a meal. If your dog is overweight or diabetic, ask your vet first. Remember that some Thai snacks, like sticky rice with sugar or anything with xylitol, are not safe, so keep the dog away from sweets and desserts.

Durian is too rich and the husk is dangerous, keep her away. Rambutan and longan seeds are a choking risk. Banana and papaya are fine in tiny amounts. If she gets loose stool, stop. When I first gave my dog watermelon she loved it, but she had a loose tummy after too much, so go slowly with every new fruit you try.
