How often should a Shih Tzu go to the groomer in Bangkok?
My Shih Tzu's coat gets matted behind the ears and under the legs within weeks. I take her every month, but still find knots. How often do you go, and how do you maintain at home? She is a lively, friendly girl, but she is not a fan of the dryer, so I would also love tips on keeping the visit less stressful.

Every four to six weeks, with brushing at home every other day, focusing on behind the ears and armpits. Use a metal comb to check to the skin. If she has big mats close to the skin, it's kinder to clip them off carefully by a groomer than to try to comb them out.

A shorter puppy cut keeps maintenance easy in the heat. Mine has it every month, and I bath her every two weeks. Ask your groomer which blade length leaves the coat easy to brush, and don't be shy about asking for photos of their previous work.

Tell the groomer you want gentle handling. Choose a place where you can see how they treat the dogs. Between visits, wipe the eyes with a soft damp cloth and trim the hair around the paws to stop dirt and knots building.
