Finding Khao Niao a Sitter Before Our Trip

SGSophie Goh24 October 2026·1 min read

Khao Niao is a Siberian husky who believes every fence is merely a suggestion, so leaving him at home on Koh Samui while we flew to Bangkok for work was never going to be simple. The first sitter I found politely told me she could not handle a husky who sings. I laughed, then kept searching.

What worked in the end was a small pet-sitting arrangement with a local couple who came to the house twice a day. Before we left I wrote a page of notes: his morning run route, the exact food he eats, which bin he tries to open, and that he hates thunder. They sent photos every evening, and one showed him asleep in their hallway with a tennis ball in his mouth.

My advice for anyone travelling with a husky is to meet the sitter in person, let the dog meet them too, and leave a detailed list. Khao Niao came home a little spoiled and rather proud of his new friends, and I'm now thinking about how to make that a regular thing.

Haha, a husky with opinions. Poor sitter.

We will borrow your idea of a trial day with a sitter before leaving Kuma and Jasper alone for a longer trip.

Did you end up finding a sitter who was okay with a husky who sings? We will have a similar problem with our own dog next month. How did you vet the sitters, through an agency or a local group? And what did you do about the fence situation at the house?

    ได้ยินแล้วเข้าใจเลยค่ะ การหาคนดูแลน้องที่ซนขนาดนี้ไม่ง่ายจริงๆ เดี๋ยวคงได้คนใจดีมาเจอแน่นอน

Our Namkhaeng would be the first one to dig under any fence, so we are taking notes on your sitter search. Thanks for the honest story.
