Fostering Olive for a Phuket Rescue Group

WLWang Lin3 October 2026·1 min read

Olive came to our apartment in Kathu three months ago as a foster. She is a nearly six-year-old Beagle with a nose that never stops. The rescue group found her wandering near a market, thin and nervous, and asked if we could take her in until she found a family.

The first week she hid under the dining table and would not eat while we were watching. We left her food in the corner and sat quietly on the sofa, reading the news on our phones.

Now she greets us at the door with her tail going, and she steals socks from the laundry basket. Every Saturday we take her to the beach near Kata pier, where she sniffs everything and then rolls in the sand.

The rescue group says a family has applied to adopt her. My wife cried a little when she heard, though she will not admit it. Olive leaves us next week, and we will miss her more than we expected.

Fostering a beagle sounds like a lot of fun but also a lot of work, especially with a nose that never stops. It's great that Olive has a steady home to learn in while she waits for her forever family. The rescue group is lucky to have people who take the time to get to know each dog. I hope she finds her spot soon.

Olive hiding under the dining table? Rocky did that for a week when we got him, then he learned the fridge sound means breakfast lol
