grapes are bad, mango seed is bad, what else

Natthida5 September 2025·1 min read

My friend's dog ate a grape last year and we rushed to the 24 hour clinic in Ratchathewi at 2am. Since then I make a list in my phone and I keep updating it, so here is what I remember.

Dangerous: grapes and raisins (even 1 can be bad, the vet said no amount is safe for dogs), chocolate especially dark, onion and garlic in any form, the seed inside mango and the pit of lychee and avocado, xylitol which is in some sugar free gum and candy (very very dangerous, it drop the blood sugar fast).

Not as bad but still avoid: too much salt, cooked bones that split, macadamia nuts, alcohol.

The small things that people forget: the sweet sour sauce from restaurant has onion powder, the bread with garlic butter, the curry that friends give you on Sunday. Ask first.

I'm not a vet, always check with your vet. But please keep the emergency number saved, you won't want to search at 2am.
