Keeping a tiny Pom cool in Nonthaburi heat
Kitkat came home in June and by August the heat was getting to him. He is still very small and already has the Pomeranian fluff going everywhere. Our house in Bang Yai only has aircon in the bedroom and living room, so the first few weeks he slept in a crate right next to the unit.
Things that actually helped:
Cooling mat, the gel kind, changed every couple of hours. He lies on it and sometimes falls asleep on it, which is the goal.
Walks before 7am and after 6pm. Anything in between and the pavement burns his paws. I check the ground with the back of my hand first, if I cannot hold it for 5 seconds it is too hot.
Water bowls in three places around the house, and I freeze some of his food in a silicone mold with a little water. He licks it for ages.
Panting is normal, but if he is breathing very fast, lying flat and not responding, that is an emergency. We took him to the vet in Bang Yai once for that and it was just overheating. He was fine after a drip.
Honestly the biggest change was moving his bed onto the tiled floor away from the window. Simple, but nobody told me that.
He still loves the cooling mat.

หนูว่าการเปิดแอร์ทั้งวันอาจจะไม่ดีกับค่าไฟนะคะ อย่างน้อยตั้งแอร์ไว้ที่ห้องนอนแล้วใช้พัดลมก็พอค่ะ
