Kluay Finally Comes When Called (Sort Of)

NPNantana Poonsiri2 October 2026·1 min read

Kluay is a three-year-old Khao Manee, which means she is a white cat with strong opinions. I never expected to train her, but after a month of treats and patience, she now walks on a harness down our soi in Pak Kret. People stare. I don't blame them.

The recall training was the real breakthrough. I started by calling her name at dinner time and giving her a bit of tuna each time she came. Within a week she was trotting to me whenever I said her name in the kitchen. The neighbours' cat still makes her ignore me sometimes, but I'd call that a win.

Leash walking took longer. On the first try she sat down in the middle of the road for ten minutes, and I just waited with a treat until she decided to move. Now she walks ahead of me, tail high, as if she invented the idea herself.
