Ozzy insurance claim approved (took 3 weeks)

Our German shepherd Ozzy had surgery on her hip last month, and I want to share my experience with pet insurance here because I looked for a long time before I bought it. The company is a big one, but I will not write their name. The policy cost me 1,100 baht per month for the full plan, which is high. My friend in Bangkok pays half of that but her dog is small and healthy.

Before surgery I called them to check the claim. The staff was not very clear, they gave me different answers two times. I had to send photos of the X-ray, the vet report, the receipt, and the form with my signature. I scanned everything with my phone and sent by email. Three weeks later they approved 80 percent of the surgery cost, and the deductible was 5000 baht, so I paid the rest.

Some important things. Read the list of conditions not covered. Hip problems can be excluded if the dog had any symptom before the policy start date, so check this carefully before you buy. The vet told me Ozzy had some small stiffness two years ago, and I did not mention it, which maybe was a mistake. I will see what they say next year when I renew.
