Tong Tong is 11 now and used to be fully house trained. For the last month he keeps peeing in the living room even though I take him out 3 times a day. He does it sometimes right after coming back in. Did he forget? Or is it just his age?
I think, maybe, the house training is not forgotten. Old dog may have weak bladder. Please check kidney and bladder with the vet. Also keep feeding and walking times same every day, it is realy helpful for him, I think.
Yeah don't scold him, he doesn't understand why. Reward him when he pees outside. And maybe get a special mat in the living room that is easy to clean, just in case.
Maybe he is just not finishing his pee outside. Try taking him out after meal and after nap, dogs pee after eating and waking up. Old dogs need more toilet trips than young ones so 3 times a day maybe not enought for him.
Old dachshund same problem, my Shiba also do this in old age. Vet say it can be urinary infection so do urine test first. Clean with enzyme cleaner, not normal soap, dog smell the pee and come back to same spot. Put puppy pad at corner for now.
