Found a friendly soi dog near my building. How do I start adopting?

There is a young female dog who has waited outside our condo for weeks. She is friendly, thin, and seems to be without an owner. I would like to take her in, but I don't know the first steps. Vet visit, vaccines, sterilisation? What do you do first, and how do you find out whether she has an owner?

First ask around the neighbours and the security guard, and take a photo to post in local groups in case she is lost. Then bring her to the vet for a health check, parasite treatment, vaccines and a microchip check. Shelters around here sometimes know the area dogs, so you might also ask them to scan for a microchip, which is quick and free in many places.

Give her a quiet space for the first weeks, and a simple routine. Soi dogs can be anxious about doors and leashes. Be patient and she will bloom. Take photos in the first days, you will love to look at them later, and celebrate her first proper tail wag in the new home.

Plan for the costs: sterilisation, vaccines, tick and heartworm check. Many local groups run low-cost sterilisation days. Check the condo pet rules too before bringing her inside. Making a budget and thinking about who looks after her when you travel is part of the process, but it all becomes natural quickly.
