first aid kit for a dog I am looking after

OBOliver Brown17 June 2026·1 min read

I do not own a dog. My neighbour's Labrador got a cut on the paw last month when I was dog-sitting, and I realised I had nothing useful in the flat. So I bought a basic kit this week.

It has sterile gauze, a bandage roll, some tape that does not stick to fur, saline, and a plastic syringe for cleaning the wound. The vet told me not to use a human cream on a dog's wound without checking first.

It is small enough to keep in the car. I will be honest, I hope I never need it, but the dog was grateful that I stopped the bleeding quickly.

Where did you buy the sterile gauze, pharmacy or pet shop? Which area are you in?
