Ploy and his 6 a.m. sock heist

SPSomsri Phongphan23 October 2026·1 min read

Ploy is a mixed-breed dog, about four years old, and he has one daily routine I could set a clock by. Every morning at around six, he steals one sock from the laundry basket, carries it to the living room, and drops it in front of the fan. Not under the fan, not near it, right in front of it, like an offering.

I used to think he was just being cheeky. Then I noticed he only takes the socks I wear to work, which is honestly a little flattering. I tried a hamper with a lid, and that lasted two days, because he figured out how to nose it open.

What helped was a sock toy of his own that he can shred whenever he likes. He still goes for mine sometimes, but now at least I know it's a game and not a crime. Practical tip: if your dog collects laundry, keep a spare bin of cheap socks by the door.

    Ployくんの靴下泥棒、毎朝の習慣なんですね! 洗濯かごはどこに置いていますか? うちのHugoも靴下が大好きなので、取られないように工夫していることがあれば知りたいです。

Lovely story! Our cat does something similar with the bath towels every morning. Is the fan always on in your place? We keep ours on all night, it is the only way to sleep when it gets this humid.
