rabbit and hamster basics, minding my daughter's pets

Sarah30 July 2026·1 min read

My daughter asked me to mind the rabbit and the hamster for a week while she was in Bangkok for work. I have Simba here, my mixed breed girl, so I have some experience with dogs but not with these two.

The rabbit, Clover, needs hay more than anything else. Unlimited hay, fresh water, and only a small amount of pellets. Greens every day, but check each one first. Parsley and romaine are fine, iceberg is not very good for them. Keep the hutch out of direct sun, it gets very hot in Chaweng in April, and rabbits overheat quickly.

The hamster, Biscuit, sleeps during the day so she was a bit grumpy when I woke her up. Make sure the wheel is solid, with no gaps for toes. Change the bedding but keep a small piece of the old one so it still smells like home. She settled down after two nights.

Wash your hands after you touch them, and keep them away from the dog. Simba was very interested and that was a problem.

I think iceberg is ok in small amount, my rabbit eat it every week and no problem. But yes hay is most important, the pellets too much make them fat. I dont have rabbit now but my friend has 2 and she do same thing

Waffle has a socks problem. Every morning I find 2 or 3 socks in the hallway, always the ones I wear to work because I put them in the laundry basket. She drags them all the way from the bed...
