Description
Doy Din Dang Pottery is a working ceramic studio founded in 1991 by master ceramicist Somluk Pantiboon. Its Japanese-inspired stoneware uses northern Thai clay and natural ash glazes, and the open-air gallery displays cups, bowls, teapots and vases.
Visitors can watch artisans throw clay and fire wood-burning kilns. The small garden café serves coffee, tea and homemade ice cream in handcrafted ceramics made on site. It is calm and unhurried, and suits visitors who enjoy craft more than a typical café stop.
Getting there
The studio is in Ban Pa O (Soi 3), off Phahonyothin Road (Highway 1) in Tambon Nang Lae, about 12 km north of Chiang Rai city centre. It is near Mae Fah Luang University and a short drive from the Baan Dam (Black House) Museum.
Chiang Rai has no BTS or MRT, so most visitors come by car or scooter. Free on-site parking is available for cars and motorcycles.
