Rai Saeng Arun is a reasonably priced eco-farm resort of riverside and hillside villas on the Mekong in Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai. It accepts dogs and cats under 10 kg, one pet per room.

Small dogs and cats are welcome, up to 10 kg, with a maximum of one pet per room. Exotic pets are not allowed. Pets stay in the standalone villas; lower-level riverside or garden villas are recommended, as the hillside villas are reached by a long flight of steps.

Pets may be walked on a leash in the grounds and along the paved trails by the river.

Please follow the rules, be polite and considerate, and do not leave pets unattended unless you have agreed this in advance with the staff.

Description

Rai Saeng Arun (ไร่แสงอรุณ รีสอร์ท) combines an eco-resort with an organic farm on the bank of the Mekong, facing the hills of Laos. Natural teak and wooden buildings sit among rice fields, fruit orchards and farming plots.

The villas are in two settings. Riverfront and flatland villas such as Baan Rim Khong and Baan Bueng Bua stand along the water or beside lotus ponds and paddies. Hillside villas such as Baan Saeng Arun, Baan Deun Jaem and Baan Piang Or sit high on the ridge, reached by about a hundred steps, with wide views over the river valley.

Units have a private wooden balcony, an open-air or nature-style bathroom, air conditioning, a minibar and Wi-Fi. The open-air restaurant serves farm-to-table food made with chemical-free vegetables and seasonal produce from the resort gardens. The resort can arrange airport transfers.

Neighbourhood

The resort is in a quiet rural village on the Mekong, with farmland, orchards and river views. A traditional Tai Lue weaving village is close by.

Huai Sai Man Forest Park (about 2.4 km): a forest park.
Wat Phra Phutthabat Huai Sa and Huai Sa Waterfall (about 2.9 km): a temple and waterfall.

Getting there

The address is 2 Moo 3, Ban Pha Kub, Rim Khong, Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai, on Rural Road CR 4007. From Chiang Rai city, take Route 1232 / 1174 towards Chiang Khong, then join CR 4007 along the Mekong to Ban Pha Kub. From Chiang Saen, drive east along Route 1129 / CR 4007 beside the river.

Mae Fah Luang – Chiang Rai International Airport is about 90–96 km away, roughly 1.5–2 hours by car. The resort can provide or arrange an airport transfer.

Long-distance buses run from Bangkok and northern cities to Chiang Khong Bus Terminal (about 12 hours). From there, songthaews or private transfers cover the remaining 19–20 km to the resort. Free parking is available on site.
