Description
Bang Pae Waterfall is a granite cascade about 15 m high in Khao Phra Thaeo, the last large patch of lowland rainforest in Phuket's northeast. A maintained path with handrails on the steep bits follows the stream past small pools to the main falls in 10 to 15 minutes. Fit hikers can continue on the jungle trail to Ton Sai Waterfall. Flow is strongest from May to November.
The walk is shaded and cool, which makes it one of Phuket's easier nature outings with a dog. Rocks get slippery when wet, and locals say the steps can be awkward for dogs. Dogs are not allowed in the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, and you should keep a short lead around macaques. Bring repellent.
Good to know: entry is 200 baht for foreign adults, plus a small vehicle fee, and it is open daily from 09:00 to 16:00. The car park fills up at weekends, so arrive before 10am.
