Description
Bang Waad Reservoir (Bang Wad Dam) is Kathu's big freshwater reservoir and a favourite place to walk, jog or cycle. A paved road loops about 6.4 km around the water through forest and old rubber plantations; it's mostly flat and takes just over an hour on foot. Go early or near sunset.
For dogs it's an easy walk on smooth tarmac, mostly under trees, and dog walkers are a common sight. Traffic is light, but there are blind bends with the odd pickup or scooter, so keep the lead short. Watch for free-roaming dogs, snakes and monitor lizards. There's no water point for dogs, so bring your own.
Good to know: entry is free and the site is listed as open 05:00 to 22:00. Vendors sell fruit and cold drinks by the dam, and some food stalls open in the evening. Reviewers note there are no toilets on the loop.
