Grassy headland at the far end of Ao Sane in south Phuket, reached on foot over shore rocks or a gravel track; dogs are welcome on a lead, but there's almost no shade.
Bringing your pet
Dogs are welcome on a lead on the shore and grassland trail out to Laem Krating (Pet Friendly Phuket).
- Terrain: The shore section means hopping over boulders, easier for agile dogs than small or older ones.
- Safety: Parts of the path run near cliff edges, so keep the lead short, and the trail is slippery after rain.
- Heat & water: There's almost no shade and no water on the way, so avoid midday and check paws on hot rock.
- Entry & fees: Entry is free, and a small shop at Dragon camping sells water.
Description
Cape Krathing (Laem Krating) is a grass-and-rock headland past Nai Harn and Ao Sane with wide Andaman views, golden grass and a 'sail rock' at the tip. Sunset is the big draw. It's walk-in only: the usual route passes the Baan Krating resort, follows shore boulders and climbs a grassy slope, 1–1.5 hours return; a longer gravel track comes from Black Rock.
For dogs the shore section means hopping over boulders, easier for agile dogs than small or older ones, and parts of the path run near cliff edges, so keep the lead short. There's almost no shade, no water and no toilet on the way: avoid midday, carry water and check paws on hot rock. Bring a torch if you stay for sunset.
Good to know: entry is free. A small shop at Dragon camping sells water. The trail is slippery after rain and can wash out from July to October.
