Description
Phuket Chaloem Phrakiat Park, known locally as Suan Luang R.9, covers about 350 rai in Talat Nuea on the edge of Phuket Town, making it the province's largest park. It was built on a former tin mine and opened in 1987. Lawns and big trees surround a central lake, and a flat, paved loop of about 4 km takes under an hour on foot. Locals come to run, cycle, play football and takraw, and join the evening aerobics.
The wide, level paths are easy on paws and suit dogs of any age. Some stretches are open with little shade, so in the heat stick to early morning or after sunset and bring water. From about 5pm to 8pm the park fills with joggers, cyclists and exercise groups, so keep the lead short. Some path edges are slippery after rain.
Good to know: the park is open daily from 04:30 to 22:00 and has a car park on site.
