Bringing your pet
Dogs are welcome on a lead on the sand at Haad Yuan, a roadless bay north of Haad Rin (BeachAtlas).
- Leash: Keep the lead on around the beach bars and bungalows.
- Heat & water: The two-hour jungle hike from Haad Rin is too hot for most dogs.
- Swimming: The clear water deepens gently, and a net encloses the swimming area in jellyfish season.
- Crowds: Weekend parties on the northern rocks get loud.
- Entry & fees: You arrive by longtail, wading out for a splashy 10–15 minute crossing, or on a very rough 4x4 track; there are no ATMs.
Description
Haad Yuan Beach is a curve of fine white sand about 300 metres long on Koh Phangan's southeast coast, the first of three roadless bays north of Haad Rin. The water is clear and deepens gently, making it the best swimming of the three, with simple bungalows, beach bars and wooden walkways over the boulders at each end. A rocky path of about 20 minutes leads to Haad Tien.
Dogs get a quiet day here: no roads or scooters on the beach, and calm water for a paddle. Getting in is the hurdle: the longtail means wading out and a sometimes splashy 10–15 minute crossing, and the 4x4 track is very rough. Weekend parties on the northern rocks get loud, and the two-hour jungle hike from Haad Rin is too hot for most dogs.
Good to know: there are no ATMs, so bring cash. The sea is flattest from about April to September; in jellyfish season a net encloses the swimming area.
