Description
Lan Dao Viewpoint (Lanlandaw, "field of a million stars") is a hilltop restaurant and camping spot in the hills above Bo Put on Koh Samui. It is known for moo kratha, the Thai grill, served with wide views over the coast by day and the island's lights at night. Walkers can climb a partly paved trail of about 2.7 km out and back, with roughly 270 m of ascent, in around 1.5 hours. The best time is from about 5pm, when it's cooler and the light is good.
The trail is steep with sunny stretches, so it gets hot for dogs quickly. Go late in the day, carry water and a bowl, and rest in the shady parts. Paved sections can burn paws at midday. It suits fit dogs more than older or flat-faced breeds.
Good to know: the restaurant is listed as open daily from 12:00 to 22:00, and it runs a shuttle up the hill. Bring cash and a light layer for the evening breeze.
