Bringing your pet
Dogs are welcome on a lead on the public seafront just south of Nathon pier, as on Samui's other public beaches (Wylie Travel Dog).
- Terrain: It is a flat stroll beside shallow water, with muddy sand flats at low tide, so bring a towel for paws.
- Safety: Visitors mention litter on parts of the shore, so watch what your dog picks up.
- Animals on site: Stray dogs are reported around Nathon beach, so keep yours close.
- Crowds: The seafront is busiest at sunset, from about 17:30.
- Entry & fees: It is free and open around the clock.
Description
Nathon Sunset Viewpoint is a spot on the seafront of Nathon, the harbour town on Koh Samui's west coast, just south of the town centre and pier. The coast faces west, so the sun drops over open water with ferries and fishing boats in the foreground, and at low tide the sand flats stretch far out and mirror the sky. Arrive around 17:30; the seafront is busiest at sunset.
For a dog it is an easy, flat stroll. The water is shallow with muddy sand in places and is not a swimming beach, and visitors mention litter on parts of the shore, so watch what your dog picks up and bring a towel for muddy paws. Stray dogs are reported around Nathon beach, so keep the lead on.
Good to know: it is free and open around the clock. The ring road is slow around 5pm, so leave early from the east coast. Nathon's night market runs roughly 17:00–22:00 for cheap street food and seafood.
