Dogs are welcome on a lead on the short path to Overlap Stone (Hin Son) above Lamai (AllTrails).
- Terrain: A steep, rocky path of about 500 m leads to a hanging bridge out to the rock.
- Safety: Parts have no railings and the bridge sways, so keep a nervous dog on a short lead or skip it.
- Heat & water: The rock heats up fast by midday, so go early and bring water.
- Animals on site: Keep well clear of the two elephants penned on the way up.
- Entry & fees: This private viewpoint charges 200–300 baht cash including a drink, 08:00–18:00.
Description
Overlap Stone, known locally as Hin Son, is an 8 m granite boulder balanced on a rock ledge about 150 m up in the hills of Maret, 3 km from Lamai Beach. From the parking area, a steep, rocky path of about 500 m leads to a hanging bridge out to the rock, with wide views over Lamai Bay and the east coast. Go early, before the heat and crowds.
The climb is short but steep and exposed, and the rock heats up fast by midday, so bring water. Parts of the route have no railings and the bridge sways, so keep a nervous dog on a short lead or skip the bridge. Keep well clear of the two elephants penned on the way up.
Good to know: it's a private paid viewpoint, signed Overlap Stone Camp View. Entry is 200–300 baht in cash including a drink, and it is open daily from 08:00 to 18:00. Overlap Stone 2, higher up, has been closed since a July 2026 raid.
