Koh Tao's longest beach, a 1.5 km strip of white sand, dive shops and bars at Sairee village on the west coast; dogs welcome on a lead among friendly beach dogs.
Bringing your pet
Dogs are welcome on a lead on Sairee Beach, as on other popular Koh Tao beaches (BeachAtlas, Sairee Cottage Diving).
- Heat & water: Walk early or late, when the sand is cooler.
- Swimming: The calm water makes an easy paddle; rinse off the salt afterwards.
- Animals on site: Many beach dogs belong to dive shops, restaurants and boat drivers and are curious, so keep yours leashed for introductions.
- Crowds: Evenings bring sunset crowds and fire shows, and peak season and Full Moon Party dates get busy.
Description
Sairee Beach is the 1.5 km main beach on Koh Tao's west coast and the heart of Sairee village. The sand is soft and white, the water mostly calm, and the strip is lined with dive schools, guesthouses, cafés and bars. Mornings are quiet; evenings bring sunset crowds and fire shows. February to April is the best time for diving.
Dogs are part of beach life here: many belong to dive shops, restaurants and longtail boat drivers, and most are relaxed and curious, so keep yours on a lead for introductions. A local dive shop says island vets vaccinate and sterilise strays. Walk early or late when the sand is cooler, and avoid the evening fire-show zone. The calm water makes a paddle easy; rinse off salt afterwards.
Good to know: it gets crowded in peak season and around Full Moon Party dates on Koh Phangan. Locals ask visitors not to feed the beach dogs.
