Bringing your pet
Dogs are welcome on a lead on the forest walk to Than Praphat Waterfall in Than Sadet–Ko Pha-ngan National Park.
- Terrain: It is a 500–600 m walk from the end of a partly concrete road, with slippery rocks around the cascades.
- Heat & water: The path is shaded, but the 9.8 km coastal trail to Haad Yuan is too much in the heat.
- Swimming: Small pools make a good cool-off when the stream flows, mainly in the rainy season.
- Animals on site: Macaques live in the park, so keep food out of sight and your dog close.
Description
Than Praphat Waterfall is a small royal waterfall in Than Sadet–Ko Pha-ngan National Park, named by King Rama V in 1889; a carved 'Than Praphat' inscription near the bottom is now worn by the water. It is a forest stream with a few small cascades and pools running down to the sea. It is a 500–600 metre walk from the end of the road, and flow is strongest in the rainy season.
For dogs, the short forest walk is shaded and the pools make a good cool-off when there is water. Rocks around the cascades are slippery, so keep the lead on near the edges. Macaques live in the park, so keep food out of sight and your dog close. The 9.8 km coastal trail to Haad Yuan is too much in the heat.
Good to know: the road in is only partly concrete. January to May is the driest time; from October to December heavy rain can wash out trails. Bring water and repellent for mosquitoes.
