Moving to Koh Phangan with Toto, rental advice

Question

Toto is my 5 year old dachshund and I'm finally moving to Koh Phangan for remote work. I'm worried about rental houses, lots of them have dirt yards and there are dogs roaming everywhere. Is it hard to find a place with a fence? I also want to know if the ferry is ok for him.

Hi, Im been on Phangan 4 yr with my frenchie. Yes the stray dog problem is real but most of the old resort area guys dont mind. Ask for a house with a front fence, they usually have one. For the ferry put him in a bag with air holes, the crew is nice but the sea gets rough in monsoon. Dont go in Oct or Nov, thats the worst.

Ask on the Phangan dog rescue Facebook group, they know which houses are okay. Also get Toto a microchip before moving if he has not got one. Helps a lot when rules change.

Lots of fenced places near Thong Sala but they go fast. Check the rental groups on Facebok. Ferry is fine if you have a carier. Dachshund back is a problem on rockey road so keep him off the stairs when he is tired.

I looked for a house with a grass yard too, corgi likes digging. In rainy season the ground gets muddy so check the drainage before you sign.

Koh Phangan is so dog friendly but yes the roaming dogs. Get a house with cement wall, not wire fence, the stray dogs can squeeze through wire. And buy a good leash, it saves so much trouble.
