Bean has a first aid kit that is mostly for me, to be honest. He is nine and the only thing he really hurts himself on is his pride when he falls off the bed.
Keep it simple. Here is what is in the drawer in the kitchen:
Saline wash in the small bottle, sterile gauze, vet wrap (the stretchy kind, not sticky tape which pulls the fur), a pair of blunt scissors, a digital thermometer you keep only for pets, and a bag of his usual food for when the stomach is off.
Do not keep human pain meds in the same drawer as anything for the cat. Paracetamol is toxic to cats, full stop. Our vet was very clear about it when I asked what I could give him after a tooth thing. Ask first, every time.
Cat carrier should be in the car always. In Bangkok traffic you do not want to be looking for it when the phone rings.
Write the vet number and the after hours emergency number on a card and stick it on the fridge. In a panic your brain will not remember anything, mine did not.
Last thing. Check the expiry dates once a year. I found a tube of wound cream from 2019 last month, which is not exactly first aid.
Kitty is 12 now and she still wants her walk every morning, even when it is basically a sauna outside. We go out at 6 am, which is the only time it is bearable in Bang Sue. By 7 the sidewalk...
Kluay is 7 year old British shorthair and he refuses to eat anything new. I tried wet food and he eats it for 2 days then stops. So right now we do mostly dry food with 1 pouch in the evenin...
