There was a small brown stray dog near our soi in Bang Phli, quite skinny and limping a bit. I was scared to go near him at first because I do not know how they will react. Kaprao is my Shiba Inu and he was barking at the fence, so I took him inside first.
What I did: I sat on the ground, far enough away, with some chicken in a bowl. I did not look at the dog directly and I did not reach out. After about 20 minutes he came closer. I put the food down and walked away.
The next day I put a towel in a box near the wall and he slept there. Then I called the local animal rescue group that comes around our area, and they came to check him.
If you find a stray, do not take it inside alone unless you are sure it is safe, and always use gloves or a towel for the first time. The rescue said it is better to call them than to feed the same dog every day without a plan.
Nemo is a six-and-a-half-year-old British Shorthair who thinks he is the boss of the house. We live on Koh Samui with four other animals, two cats, a rescue dog and a very opinionated tortoi...
Got back from a 4 day trip to Chiang Mai and Leo stayed with a pet sitter from our soi. She sent photos every morning. He looked happy in all of them except the one where he sat in the sink...

Put the food down and walk away, dont stand over him. Also a cardboard box as a shelter helps, they feel safe. My Namtarn did the same.
