Before our trip to Japan, I spent three evenings looking for someone to look after Lychee. She is an almost two-year-old mixed breed cat with very firm opinions, and I had read that a sitter needs to be a good match. Our first candidate lasted about four minutes in our Sukhumvit flat. Lychee sat on the kitchen counter, stared at her, and walked out without even blinking.
The second sitter was lovely, and I think Lychee approved, because she let her brush her. She also asked Lychee three questions before she asked me one. I was impressed, and Lychee was clearly impressed too, since she fell asleep on the sitter's bag.
So my advice is simple: let your cat do the interview. I just paid for the cat food and left her to it.
Honestly, Lychee interviewing her sitter is the most Lychee thing I have ever read. Four minutes is a very fast rejection, so I can see why you were nervous. I hope the second candidate lasted longer and that she finally approved of someone. Give her a treat from me.
