Mosquito season with Pikachu, what we do

Pikachu is our Thai Ridgeback, 6 years old, and mosquito season in Khlong San is brutal. We live near the canal so every evening he comes back with bites on his ears. We give him the heartworm preventive once a month, always on the same day. We put a reminder in the phone and also write it on the calendar in the kitchen, because my husband forgot twice last year. The vet explained that heartworm treatment is very hard on the dog, so prevention is the easier way. For walking, we take him out only in the early morning or late evening when the mosquitoes are fewer. We also put a dog-safe spray on his legs and belly before going out. Not all spray is safe, so check the label for dogs. At night we keep the fan on and the door closed so the room is not full of mosquitoes. Pikachu sleeps much better now. If your dog is coughing after a walk or gets tired very fast, see a vet. We went through it with a friend and it was scary.
