Choco ate a sock last Tuesday. Not a little bit, the whole sock. We spent the night at the emergency vet in Chalong and she was fine after they gave her something to make her throw up. I felt really stupid, but it made me build a proper first aid kit that night.
What's in it now: sterile gauze pads, a roll of vet wrap (the stretchy one, not the tape), saline for eyes and cuts, a digital thermometer and some lube for it, tweezers for ticks, a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide but only if the vet told you to use it, and styptic powder for when you cut the nail too short. Shiba nails bleed a lot if you cut them wrong.
I also keep a muzzle, a towel, and a crate blanket in the car. And the number of the vet and the 24 hour emergency line written on the fridge, my phone was dead that night.
The box is the cheapest thing I bought all year. I hope I never have to open it but I sleep better knowing it is there.
