training update, Sora is finally sitting!

Sora has been with us for 1 year and 4 months now. In the beginning she was really naughty, peeing everywhere and barking at everything. Now after 6 months of training she can do sit, stay, and come when called. Not perfect, but I am very proud. What worked for us was short sessions. Only 5 minutes each time, 3 times a day. My grandson made a training game with treats and a clicker, and Sora likes it very much. She learned 'sit' in just 2 days, the 'stay' took 3 weeks because she is always moving. The most difficult was toilet training. I keep a potty pad by the balcony and every time she goes, I give praise and a small piece of chicken. At night I put her in the crate in my room and she cried the first week, but then she became quiet. My daughter says I am too soft, but I do not care. Some dog trainer on YouTube says you should not use punishment, only rewards. I follow that. When she bites the slippers, I just take the slippers away and give her a toy. Simple. She still barks at the delivery guy every time, but I think she is just doing her job as the guard dog of the house. We are working on it. Next goal is walking on the leash without pulling. She pulls like a horse. My knees are not good enough for that yet. I hope this helps other grandmas with small dogs. You can do it, just be patient and do not give up.
