Description
Chivit Thamma Da is a family-run restaurant and café on the banks of the Kok River, in a colonial-style house filled with antiques, vintage books and wooden ceilings. The name means simple life, and the whole place is built around slowing down.
The kitchen blends local Thai cooking with European comfort food, and beef khao soi is a favourite. Homemade bakery items, coffee and cocktails are served on the riverside lawn, in the shady garden, on the upstairs terrace or in the colonial bar.
Getting there
The restaurant is at 179 Bannrongseartean Soi 3 in Rim Kok, on the south bank of the Kok River, just off Phahonyothin Road (Highway 1). From the town centre across the Mae Kok bridge, turn left at the first traffic signal.
It is a two to three minute drive from Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple. Chiang Rai has no BTS or MRT, so most visitors come by car, taxi, Grab, songthaew or tuk-tuk. A dedicated car park with EV charging points is across the road from the entrance.
