The Southern Thailand Elephant Foundation (STEF) is an officially registered non-governmental organization and international charity dedicated to the health care and welfare of Asian elephants in Southern Thailand. Founded in 2017 by Jakrapob Jake Thaotad, the foundation operates the STEF Veterinary Centre, a specialized elephant hospital located near Khok Kloi in Phang Nga Province.
Built on land reclaimed from an old rubber plantation, the hospital facility provides free medical and veterinary care to sick, injured, and vulnerable domesticated elephants across Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, and Surat Thani provinces. In addition to the stationary hospital unit, STEF runs a dedicated mobile veterinary clinic to reach animals in remote locations and provides practical training and advice to local mahouts. The foundation relies on donations, grants, and volunteers to fund its medical supplies, specialized staff, and welfare initiatives.
The Southern Thailand Elephant Foundation hospital is located near Khok Kloi in Amphoe Takua Thung, Phang Nga Province. It is typically accessed via regional roads heading north from Phuket across the Sarasin Bridge or through Khok Kloi town via local rural routes leading toward former plantation properties. The facility is not generally open to the general public for walk-in visits, though professional veterinary visits can be arranged by prior coordination.
