The Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket is a major non-profit animal sanctuary dedicated to rescuing, treating, and sterilizing stray dogs and cats. It offers free guided tours, volunteer programs, and visitor interactions.
Description
The Soi Dog Foundation is a prominent, non-profit animal welfare organization and sanctuary located in Mai Khao, Phuket, dedicated to helping homeless, neglected, and abused stray dogs and cats. Spread across a large facility known as the Gill Dalley Sanctuary, it houses over 1,800 dogs and cats, providing them with critical medical care, rehabilitation, and shelter. The foundation is internationally recognized for its major role in legally ending the commercial dog meat trade in Thailand and running a massive, humane spay-and-neuter CNVR (Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) program.
Visitors are welcome to explore the sanctuary through free, structured guided tours that highlight the history and daily life-saving operations of the foundation. Following the tour, visitors can interact with rescued puppies in the puppy run and spend time with cats in the cattery. The site also features a visitor center and a merchandise shop where purchases directly support animal welfare programs.
Getting there
If driving north on Thep Kasattri Road (Highway 402) past the airport turnoff and Blue Canyon Country Golf Club, look for the Soi Dog Foundation road sign. Turn onto highway 4031 near Wat Mai Khao, drive for under 3 kilometers to the Y junction, take the right fork, and continue for about 600 meters to reach the sanctuary entrance.
