Cappuccino hates rain
Cappuccino is very dramatic about rain. The first drop hits the balcony and she runs back inside, then she sits by the door looking at me like I did this on purpose. Bangkok rain season is hard for a Shih Tzu, her long hair gets wet and smells like a wet carpet for two days.
Every time we come back from walk, I dry her with a towel. She hates it. She shakes and then runs under the bed, and I have to pull her out with a treat. The towel drying takes about 10 minutes, but it is the only way I can keep her fur from getting that wet dog smell.
The condo lift is the worst part. We live on the 15th floor, so every walk means waiting for the lift with a wet dog, and the other residents are not always happy about the puddles on the floor. I bought a small raincoat for her, a yellow one, and she looks so unhappy in it. Still better than a dirty belly.
Last week the street near our soi flooded for about 2 hours after heavy rain. The water was up to my shins and I had to carry her across the road. She was shaking and trying to climb on my head. Since then I always check the weather app before the walk.
The vet said I should clean her ears after every rain, because the moisture can cause an ear infection. So now the routine is ear cleaner, towel, treat, and then she gets the nap of shame. Rain season will be over in a few months. Until then, I am learning how to live with a very dramatic dog.
