Chanel is only 5 month old and she has so much energy. I work 8 to 7 everyday so she is alone the whole day and i think she is lonely. I want to adopt a adult mixed dog from the shelter in Bang Kapi, maybe 1 or 2 years old so he can play with her. But my condo juristic office says max 2 pets, is it ok? Will she fight with the new dog or just ignore him?
One thing nobody mentioned yet: check the adult dog for toy and food guarding before you bring him to a home with a puppy. A puppy stealing food bowls can trigger a fight. Also ask the shelter if he has been with other dogs. We had good luck with a 2 year old, he taught our puppy to not bite so hard.
Ok I read everything here and honestly the biggest thing is the first 2 weeks. Feed them separately, separate beds, maybe let them sniff each other through a gate. The new dog might be shy from the shelter stay so dont force cuddle. Our 2 JRT took about 3 weeks to become friends. Patience is key!
Our story: we adopted a mixed dog 2 years ago and the first month he peed everywhere. Pee pads and be patient. The second dog came after that. Congrats in advance haha.
Dont forget the vet check. Puppy at 5 months should have her vaccines done, if the new dog is not up to date you could pass something to her. Ask the shelter for records.
I did this with my mix last year. Adult dog is good for a puppy, they learn manners fast from the older dog. Introduce them on neutral ground and walk together for a week first. Not perfect but it worked for us. Ask the shelter if they have a trial period too.
I have 2 mixed dog my own. They play all day when we both at home but when we go work they fight a little bit. Adult dog very calm so probably good for Chanel. Mixed breed ussually healthier too, less genetic problem.
Your condo rule is 2 pets? Ask the juristic office in writing first. Many buildings say no more than 2 dogs but some dont count small dogs. Dont just bring one home and hope nobody says anything.
+1 to Kim, but dont rush it. Chanel might get scared at first so let her come to the new dog at her own pace. Also check the dog is vaccinated and dewormed before you bring him home, shelter usually say ok but ask anyway. Good luck khaa
