bear the persian made a dog friend

So this is the weirdest thing that has happened to me at the park. Bear, who hates literally every other cat in Bangkok, walked up to a golden retriever mix at Rama 9 park this morning and sat down next to him. Context: we take Bear out in a harness once a week. She does not love it but she does love being outside. Usually we sit on the bench near the lake and she watches the ducks. This morning a Thai couple came with their dog, Tofu, who is a big fluffy chap around 5 years old. He came straight to us wagging like crazy, and Bear, instead of hissing, just stared at him for about 10 seconds and then sat down beside him. Tofu's owner was laughing and saying he has never seen Tofu so calm with a cat. We stayed about 40 minutes. They sat next to each other, Bear was grooming her paw and Tofu was just panting. Honestly I got a bit teary. Jelly (our other cat) would never do this. He stayed home sulking and I told him he missed out. Later I looked it up and apparently cats and dogs can be friends, it happens more than people think, especially when the dog is calm and the cat chooses to be the one who approaches. Bear clearly chose. We are going back next week at the same time. If Tofu is there again I will bring treats for both of them.
