boba and the fireworks (every year, same story)

Boba is a 4 year old shih tzu and he is a total wuss when it comes to loud noise. Last New Year's Eve in Taling Chan the neighbors started setting off fireworks at 10pm and didn't stop until almost 2. Boba spent the whole night shaking under our bed, and honestly so did I, I was worried he would hurt himself trying to get out of the window. This year I tried a few things. First, I bought the calming chews the vet recommended a week before the date instead of waiting until the last minute. I know they don't work for every dog but Boba took them fine. Second, I made a small safe corner in the bathroom with his blanket and some of his favorite toys, with the door open so he could go in when he wanted. The room has no windows so the noise is softer. Third, I played the TV at a low volume with some soft music. It doesn't cover the noise completely but it helps him feel like there is a normal routine going on. And I stayed home with him, which I think is the most important part. He can tell when you are relaxed. Still not a perfect night, but he was calmer than last year and that is a win for me.
