For most of my life I believed that cats hate travel. Dao, my Bengal girl, proved me wrong on our weekend in Koh Samui. She is six now, and she has the sleek spotted coat that makes people turn around in the lobby.
We had a small villa near the beach with a balcony that faced the water. Each morning she sat on the rail with her tail wrapped around her paws, watching the waves as if she were thinking about something important.
I think I was the one who needed the break. Back in Sukhumvit, life is loud and fast, but she reminded me that a slow cup of tea and a warm breeze are enough.
We will go again next year, maybe to Hua Hin this time.
Fluffy showed up in our soi in Ekkamai about four years ago, a scruffy little shih tzu with matted fur and a very confident walk, as if he owned the place. Nobody knew where he had come from...
Nok was so scared of the car the first week. He sat at the door and cried and cried. What worked for us was we did not drive first. We just let him sit in the parked car with the engine off...
Silom sidewalks are crowded, so recall training was never easy for us. Sakura, my seven-year-old Shih Tzu, would sniff every lamppost and completely ignore me.

Bringing a blanket that smells like home is a great idea, it helps cats settle into new places faster.

I think cats hate travel is still true lol, Dao is lucky but most cats would scream in the car. Beach is not for everyone.
