Fon is four and a half years old, a Domestic Shorthair with a grey coat, big yellow eyes and very strong opinions about everything. He arrived from a rescue in Rawai one hot Saturday, walked straight into the box under the bed and refused to come out for three days.
By week two he had claimed the windowsill over the kitchen sink, which is absurd, because the sink is also where I wash dishes. He sits there and stares at me until I open the window for him, then he watches the lizards on the wall as if they owe him rent.
We are learning each other slowly. He still bites my toes at four in the morning, and I still wake up cursing him. But last night he curled up on my pillow for the first time, purring like a motorbike, and suddenly the whole house felt a bit more like home.
If you are thinking about rescuing a cat, my advice is simple: give him time and keep the toes covered for a while.
We went to the beach at Koh Kaew on the first warm day. Khao Niao was not sure about the sand, he walked on his tippy toes like the floor was hot. Then the first wave came and he jumped back...

Strong opinions about everything is basically every cat I have ever met. Fon is going to be running the household within a week, mark my words.

Three days under the bed? Fon is clearly a very strategic cat.

Fon's grey coat and yellow eyes are a whole vibe, glad he is settling in.
