Butter has spent most of this April flat on the tiles under the aircon, which is about the only sensible thing a corgi can do in Chonburi heat. I used to walk her at 6am and think I was clever. Then the pavement by the sea started burning her paws by 8.
What actually works for us: walks before sunrise and after about 7pm, never on hot tarmac. Put your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If you cannot hold it, neither can her paws.
A damp towel in the freezer for the hallway floor. Cooling mats are fine but the cheap ones go warm after an hour, so we bought two and rotate them.
Water is obvious but it still matters. We keep a bowl in every room, add a few ice cubes on the hot days, and the lid on the water bowl keeps the sun off it.
Watch for heavy panting, drooling that gets thick, or wobbling. Corgis have short faces and a lot of body on short legs, so they overheat quicker than you think. Our vet in Jomtien says the bad cases in summer are almost always dogs walked in the middle of the day because the owner forgot about it.
That is my summer routine. Butter has now decided the bathroom tiles are her spot.
