Okay so this is round three of Moo Ping trying to be friends with Brownie, and honestly I'm starting to think I need to recieve some kind of award for patience lah.
Background: we got Moo Ping (mixed, around 1 year) from a rescue in Surat Thani about 4 months ago. Brownie is our rabbit, he is almost 3 and was here first, so he thinks he owns the place. Moo Ping does not understand that, obviously.
First two rounds went badly. Moo Ping wants to chase everything that moves, and Brownie just freezes and then thumps his back leg really hard, which scares the dog more. Once Moo Ping got a small scratch on his nose and I had to explain to my wife why the dog was limping. Ha.
What we've been doing differently this week: I put a baby gate between the living room and the kitchen, so they can see each other and sniff through the bars but nobody can run at anybody. Brownie loves it, he sits right against the gate and does his nose wiggle. Moo Ping just sits and stares. Two days ago he actually lay down with his head on his paws, about one meter away from the gate. We counted that as a win, definately.
Also I finally got the right kind of treats. Moo Ping goes crazy for dried chicken and Brownie is strictly into parsley, so we reward each one separately and try not to make it a competition. Not sure if that's the right thing to do but it seems calmer.
The rabbit vet at the clinic in Maenam (not the one in Samui, the drive is too long) said give it at least a couple of months and dont force contact. So that's the plan. Slow. Probably boring to watch but it is what it is.
Anyway, that's my update. If anyone has done a dog and a rabbit together in a small condo, the timing is what I want to know about. Our place is only 45 square meters so there's no escaping each other lol.
Every single evening at six o'clock, our poodle Tiger walks to the front door of our Lat Phrao flat, sits down facing the lock and waits. She does not bark. She does not whine. She just sits...
Lulu ist mein Pudel, eineinhalb Jahre alt, und letzten Monat musste er eine kleine Operation hinter sich bringen. Seitdem wohnen wir in einer Art Dauerkrankenlager in meiner Wohnung in Ekkam...

We had similar problem with a cat and a rabbit, rabbit is always stressed. Give time and treats.
